Digital accessibility means designing websites and applications that people with disabilities can use: keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility, sufficient contrast, alternative text, understandable forms. The RGAA (the French general accessibility improvement framework) is the French method that measures it, criterion by criterion, and produces a compliance rate.
Since 28 June 2025, accessibility obligations apply to many online services aimed at consumers, such as sales, booking or subscription. Micro-enterprises providing services (fewer than ten people and at most two million euros) are exempt.
Why it matters to a business owner
For a business owner, the subject is first a matter of compliance and tenders: public buyers and more and more large accounts ask for an accessibility statement. It then touches revenue: a form that cannot be filled in with a keyboard loses clients nobody sees leaving.
An accessible website is also, as a rule, better structured, faster and better understood by Google and by AI assistants. The two efforts overlap widely.
